Hawick lies in the Scottish Borders, an area known for its hills and natural beauty; in the Borders you are never more than 30 minutes' walk away from the countryside.

Traditionally associated with cashmere production and other fine knitwear, the economy of the Borders has now diversified into electronics, and other cutting-edge industries.
The map  image is produced from the Ordnance Survey Get-a-map service. Image reproduced with kind permission of Ordnance Survey and Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland

Hawick historian Ian Landles, with a sign that says it all.

All the photographs on this page are reproduced by kind permission of Jim Rowan of the Quick Photo Centre.  Jim's shop is right in the town centre at 78 High Street, so do drop in if you want any photographic work done

Representatives of the local Tourist Board speak to visitors at the town centre'sTrinity Gardens

"We're not all Rob Roy Macgregors, you know"

Skateboards, mountain bikes and back-to-front baseball caps stand out in contrast to the hills which surround Hawick

A less energetic scene from the town's Wilton Lodge Park, the largest park in the Borders.  This is Hawick Museum and Art Gallery, a superb old building which nonetheless houses fresh and up-to-the-minute exhibitions

Even Hawick people will have to do a double-take on this photo!

This is the gardens in Drumlanrig Square, taken from an unusual angle.
